KUALA  LUMPUR, June 8, 2009 – In a unique gesture of appreciation to those who place the safeguard of our nation ahead of themselves, Boustead Holdings Berhad (Boustead Group) contributed a specially configured bus to the Community Rehabilitation Center of the Malaysian Armed Forces (PPDK).

The initiative was part of the Boustead Group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitment to contribute positively to the lives of members of the Malaysian Armed Forces and their families.

The bus is possibly the first of its kind in Malaysia as it features a unique automated lift that does not require the physically challenged to alight from their wheelchair when getting onto or getting off the bus. The stairs of the bus are also built for easy access. Worth approximately RM400,000, this BMC-make vehicle can ferry up to 25 passengers with additional space for wheelchairs. Additionally, the bus is also equipped with air-conditioning and audio-visual facilities for passengers.

YBhg. Laksamana Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohd Anwar bin Hj. Mohd Nor (rtd), Chairman of
Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) was on hand to officially present on behalf of Boustead Holdings Berhad, the bus to YB Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Minister of Defence Malaysia, during the latter’s inaugural visit to LTAT headquarters today.

YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Lodin Wok Kamarrudin, Group Managing Director, Boustead Holdings Berhad, said, “We have specially configured this bus to become a viable mode of transportation for armed forces personnel who are physically challenged. Our aim is to improve the quality of life of these individuals by providing them with an easier and hassle-free way to get around.”
” As part of the LTAT Group of Companies, the Boustead Group is cognisant of our responsibilities to our stakeholders and has been steadfast in undertaking various programmes and activities centered around the Malaysian Armed Forces,” YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Lodin concluded.

Since its inception as a modest trading entity more than 180 years ago, the Boustead Group has grown by leaps and bounds to comprise more than 80 subsidiary and associate companies, and has substantial interests in various sectors of the Malaysian economy. The Boustead Group’s operations are focused in six key areas; plantation, heavy industries, property, finance & investment, trading and manufacturing & services. As at 31 December 2008, Boustead Holdings Berhad’s paid-up capital is RM326 million, while its shareholders’ funds stand at RM2.9 billion.
