KUALA LUMPUR, July 25, 2011 – Aiming to make a difference in society, the BHPetrol Orange Run 2011 raised RM30,000 in donations for three charity homes in Kuala Lumpur, namely Sentuhan Budi, Yayasan Sunbeams Home and Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam. The sixth annual Orange Run attracted a bigger crowd this year with 3,500 participants.
Managing Director of BHPetrol, Mr. Tan Kim Thiam, said, “This is the first year that we have pledged to give back to society since we began the Orange Run. We have been receiving a good response from participants over the past six years and with the new charity element this year, we are heartened to note that the number of participations has also grown.”
“The encouraging turnout shows that Malaysians are supportive of runs such as these and even more so when it supports a good cause. Additionally, the turnout is made up of a mix of participants from all walks of life that represent a cross section of Malaysians. This truly captures the 1Malaysia spirit in support of a healthy lifestyle, which is also in line with the Group’s aim for the run”.
Thousands of participants were flagged off at the Royale Bintang Hotel at the Curve by YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Lodin Wok Kamaruddin, Deputy Chairman/Group Managing Director of Boustead Holdings Berhad. The 11-kilometer route comprised the main areas of the Mutiara Damansara Commercial Centre.
The Orange Run 2011 saw keen participation across all eight categories that catered to different age groups: men’s and women’s open, men’s and women’s veteran, men’s and women’s international open, boys and girls. This year’s run saw participants, both Malaysians and foreigners, aged 13 and above.
Winners walked away with cash prizes and BHPetrol vouchers, totalling more than RM50,000.00. The first prize winners of every category received a total of RM1,500.00 in cash and BHPetrol vouchers, second prize winners from all categories received RM1,000.00 in cash and BHPetrol vouchers while third prize winners received RM750.00 in cash and BHPetrol vouchers. The fourth and fifth prize category winners received RM500.00 and RM300.00 respectively in cash prizes and BHPetrol vouchers. All prizes were presented by YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Lodin Wok Kamaruddin.
The BHPetrol Orange Run 2011 was made possible with the assistance of Polis DiRaja Malaysia, Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya and Affin Bank. The carnival-like set up of the run also presented an opportunity for participants and visitors to sample products from various companies within the Boustead Group.
